RESEARCH COMMITTEE

The mandate of this Committee is:

1.      to promote research literacy to ensure safe practice
2.      to assist with knowledge translation of research to support safe practice
3.      to develop and promote best practice guidelines to support safe practice

The College of Massage Therapy of BC is committed to developing competencies, guidelines and standards that are informed by scientific evidence as is available.  The College supports work that identifies scientific evidence for the safe practice of massage therapy.  This is identified the Guidelines for Foundational Knowledge for Massage Therapy Educational Programs - Applications of Research to Practice. 
 
The research poster Symptom Management for People Living with HIV/AIDS provides a narrative review of evidence current to 2010 for RMTs seeking to better understand working with patients who HIV/AIDS.  The use of evidence informed massage therapy guidelines is discussed.
 
The research poster Establishing an Evidence Based Contra-indications list for Massage Therapy describes a pilot project that did not find evidence for the contraindications listed by the CMTBC for massage therapy practice.
