Performance Indicator Development based upon the Competency Profile
June 13, 2011
Background Information:
In the spring/summer of 2010, the regulatory Boards of British Columbia and Newfoundland and Labrador and the Council of Ontario approved the Entry to Practice Competency Profile that had been created by the Consortium of Massage Therapy Regulators for Inter-jurisdictional Competency Development. At that time, Update # 4 reported that the next phase of this process would be the development of Performance Indicators for the Practice Competencies. This activity would be dependent upon Human Resource and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) providing funding for the project. The funding has been approved by HRSDC and the next phase is about to begin.
What are Performance Indicators?
Performance Indicators describe the assessment requirements which will indicate that registrants have met the Practice Competencies. Once developed, these Performance Indicators will provide direction for educational programs preparing students for entry-to-practice examinations as well as the examinations themselves.
The Plan:
Over the next eleven months, members of the Inter-jurisdictional Competency Project: Performance Indicators team will meet, will work in small groups, will write, will consult on line and will produce a document of Performance Indicators which will fully describe the components of the tasks that were identified in the Practice Competencies. As with the earlier project, broad consultation with Registered Massage Therapists will take place in the form of a survey. This will be followed by a stakeholder workshop and based upon the cumulative input final recommendations will be made to the regulatory colleges.
On a regular basis, updates will be posted on the web sites of the regulatory colleges to keep members apprised of the team’s progress.
