Update #2 from the Working Group for the Development of Performance Indicators based upon the Competency Profile
September 19, 2011
Meeting August 26th and 27th
The working group met in Victoria British Columbia to continue the development of Performance Indicators. The working group had been divided into three task teams with representation (as much as is possible) from all regulated jurisdictions. Each team had developed draft Performance Indicators for selected Competency Statements prior to the meeting. These draft statements were then reviewed and revised by the full working group.
What are Performance Indicators?
They are written statements that reflect measurable outcomes of a learning process. They are neither program curriculum nor test items but rather are developed at the level of a blueprint for each. From this same blueprint, educators will be guided in the development of curriculum and regulators in the development of certification examinations. The measurement of the learning can be done in a variety of formats.
What is Next?
• The task teams will continue to work on the development of draft Performance Indicators in preparation for the next full group meeting in October.
• Completion of the development phase is targeted for December to enable the creation of a validation survey for circulation to schools in the regulated jurisdictions in January.
• Regulators, associations and educators will be invited to a stakeholder workshop in Vancouver on March 3rd, 2012
